I have distinct memories of drawing this during Shakespeare class. We were discussing Richard III. I re-drew some of the doofy Lance grinning panels and stitched them together, which is why this strip is a little long.
Chefelf is the guy on the boat who knows how to get things. It’s unclear whether “Chefelf” is his actual name or just what Lance called him because he is a chef and an elf.
I don’t remember if it was this strip that did it, but at some point in my original newsboxes I gave the real Chefelf my apologies for making him “totally gay with Lance.” He assured me he did not mind.
Title took me some time to puzzle out. It’s because he’s getting a gift from an elf.
The Script
(Lance comes out of a cabin, yawning. He catches sight of himself in a mirror and grins dopily.)
VOICE OFF-PANEL: Hey…
(Lance looks puzzledly at the image in the mirror.)
CHEFELF (from behind some crates): Over here. I hear you’re a fan.
(Chefelf passes by Lance, handing him something.)
CHEFELF: Knowledge is power.
(In Lance’s hand is a jewel box; the cover art proclaims it the STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL - WITH BEA ARTHUR)
LANCE: Uh, thanks, I guess. Chef… elf… guy.
(When he looks up, he is alone. A tumbleweed passes by.)
LANCE: Chefelf?
This comic is great!

It isn’t apparent at all, sonny!
However, it is great, so…good comment boxes!
